The Couch

In our living room, we have my grandmother's lovely couch. It was in excellent condition when we received it.

It's now trashed.

The couch used to be white. It's not anymore. But that doesn't really bother me. What bothers me is having to mediate the fights between three girls who each think that they have the sole right to lie down, outstretched on the couch. If a sister is in the way (or within reach), a swift kick is the only solution. Sigh. I'm too tired to be a policeman...

Dan and I cracked.

We bought a new couch.

(Ummm...the couch photographs poorly. It's not brown, exactly. It's a lovely earth colour, with a rose undertone that turns almost purplish in the evening. Trust me, it's lovely.)

We set the couch up in the living room, and I explained the rules to the children:
  1. No eating on the couch.
  2. No drinking on the couch.
  3. No jumping on the couch.
  4. No silliness on the couch.

Yeah, I give the couch 6 months before it's destroyed.

That is a lovely couch. And at last they look they are being careful while misbehaving! I can't wait to get a new one when we move - mine is completely ruined from dog and baby.

LOL...looks like they listen as well as my kids do! I thought about replacing our couch, but decided against it until the kids move out. That's when I can finally have nice furniture! So....about 16 years from now.

Good luck with those rules! One of my older daughters is a couch hog. She is always there first and thinks she owns it. The rest rarely even fight her for it (a miracle for sure!) But her twin sometimes gets really tired of it. I could see so easily how they would fight over it as they do other stuff but I guess I should count myself lucky that this one thing they let be.

Nobody sat on my couch until I adopted a male Boxer and he claimed it as his own. :)

The couch has taken a beating. Yes, already. As it turns out, I am the only person in this house who won't sit on it. Funnily enough, I am the only person in this house who has the ability to sit on it without ruining it in one way or another!

I have decided that I need to wrap the couch in plastic like people did 40 years ago, but I can't seem to find it in the stores. :(

I've decided it's just easier to not have nice things ;)

For all you ladies with little treasures: forget about waiting 20 years to buy something lovely and tasteful, for if you do your little treasure will bring over their "little treasures" who will trash it in no time flat!

Mum: Are you STILL upset about your angel in the garden? Bethie and I both agree that it looks better WITHOUT the wings! And your butterfly net was from the Dollar Store, what did you expect? And those little ornamental veggies...they don't mind them being broken. And your necklaces? Or your shoes? Or your telephone? If you didn't want the little cherubs to touch them, you should have hidden them... in a better location.
