'Tis The Season To Send Cards

I love Christmas cards. I love sending them. I love receiving them. I am interested in how friends and family are doing. I am interested in your updates on your kids, or your last trip, or your hopes for the New Year. I especially love receiving family pictures. I treasure them, and I save them. Even the photos sent by acquaintances. Nothing warms my heart more than photos of happy families!

A lot of people have stopped sending Christmas cards. I don't know if they can't be bothered, or if they think no one really cares, or if I've simply been struck off the list (naw, that's not likely at all). I receive e-cards, and I appreciate  them. However, there's nothing as lovely as discovering in the mail something other than bills. A Christmas card, with photos, and a little note highlighting the best bits of the year. We are reminded that although we have busy lives and don't get to see each other as often as we'd like, we are still connected. We are in each other's thoughts. We wish one another a wonderful holiday and best wishes for the New Year. I think Christmas cards are worth the effort.

Each year, I carefully choose Christmas cards. Then I choose the pictures I want to order and then pick up and then insert inside the cards. And I think "Next year, I am going to order cards from one of those online places". You know, the ones that print the cards with your pictures already on it. I have done this for birthday invitations and simply LOVE it! But I never get around to it at Christmas time, and the opportunity slips away.

This year, Double the Giggles introduced me to Shutterfly. I checked out the Christmas cards and was amazed. The selection was incredible! So many different themes, which can be viewed based on colour, or the amount of pictures needed. I was in Little Gweny Heaven! So, thanks to the special offer extended to bloggers, this is the year that I am going to send out fancy cards to all my friends and family (or rather, to all of my friends and family who update their addresses!).

And if there is anyone who is still searching for a Christmas gift for me, let me direct you towards the calendars or the photo albums. They're fancy!

I am one of those lazy people you mentioned re: Christmans Cards, however that first paragraph captured my attention and pushed out Bah Humbug! I now feel like Scrooge on Christmas morning and I'm going to get my card list out immediately!

Wendy you never cease to inspire me! Thank you!

Mum: That's not true! Every year you send my children EACH a Christmas card because you know that they delight in receiving and opening their own mail. And I appreciate it (although, truthfully, I could do without the musical cards. They amuse the children, yes, but they drive me CRAZY!).

You should send out Christmas cards because people do like them. It's friendly, and socialble, and joyous. People care about you. Let them know that you're happy.

Can't wait to see what you come up with! Believe it or not, I used to make mine every year. I wish I had that kind of time on my hands now!! I feel a little bad because I chose a flat card design that won't allow me to write personal messages like I usually do, but guess I don't really have time for that, either. (Thanks for the plug, too!!)

Doouble the Giggles: Your twinnies are young. I think you should feel proud of yourself just for getting cards out. Flat ones are better right now simply because you don't have the time to write a message to each person. Maybe next year... (or, more likely, the year after that!).

I feel badly because I now realise that I don't have 50 friends/family to send cards out to! I am contemplating sending them out randomly, so even strangers can enjoy my lovely cards. I'm FESTIVE like that!

I'm with you on everything. Except I usually put it all off until December first, then panic a little, then whip into action. I love Shutterfly too, but I do need space to write in. Hmmmm. I so agree about finding Christmas cards in the mail -- it's so rare that anything fun seems to come that way any more.

I still enjoy getting Christmas cards too, though I'm inconsistent about sending them. Last year I didn't send any at all, but other years I've sent off dozens of cards with nice, newsy letters in them. Not sure what I'll manage to do this year...

I keep hearing about this Shutterfly Christmas card special! I am so on that...even though I would never send out the cards. They'll end up sitting on my counter till May...but it's the thought that counts.
